Nature Mandala: Flow
Flow: A Nature Mandala About Trusting the Journey
There is a rhythm to everything in nature.
The opening of a flower. The movement of water. The turning of the seasons. The way a seed becomes a blossom and, eventually, returns to the earth.
Nothing in nature is standing still.
And yet, nothing is rushing.
The mandala “Flow” is an invitation to remember this rhythm within ourselves.
We live in a world that often encourages us to push, plan, control, and hurry. We can become so focused on where we are going that we forget to notice where we are. We resist change because the unknown feels uncomfortable. We hold tightly to expectations, even when life is gently asking us to loosen our grip.
Flow asks something different.
It asks us to soften.
To listen.
To trust that we don't always need to know what comes next.
Created from echinacea, bergamot, zinnia, poppy, and gooseneck loosestrife, this mandala brings together a beautiful gathering of shapes, colors, and textures from the garden. Each plant has its own character, yet when placed together, they become something greater than any one flower could create alone.
That is part of the magic of making a nature mandala.
I begin with individual pieces of the natural world, noticing their colors, curves, textures, and patterns. Slowly, they find their place. One flower suggests the next. A shape creates a rhythm. A color leads the eye outward and then back toward the center.
There is planning, but there is also listening.
At some point, the mandala begins to reveal itself.
And that, too, is a lesson in flow.
Sometimes we think we have to create the whole path before we take the first step. But perhaps the path becomes visible only after we begin moving.
Flow doesn't mean giving up or becoming passive. It doesn't mean that we stop caring about where we are headed. It means learning when to act and when to allow. It means meeting life with enough openness to notice what is unfolding rather than insisting that everything unfold according to our plans.
Like a river, we can move around obstacles instead of becoming defined by them.
Like a flower, we can open when the conditions are right.
Like the seasons, we can change.
There may be times when life asks us to move forward, and times when it asks us to pause. Times to gather ourselves inward, and times to stretch toward something new.
The mandala reminds me that both are part of the same movement.
Flow is trust.
Trusting the next step without needing to see the entire journey.
Trusting that change can carry us somewhere meaningful.
Trusting that we can bend without breaking, pause without falling behind, and begin again whenever we need to.
Take a moment to look at the Flow Mandala.
Breathe.
Notice where you are holding tightly.
Notice where you might soften.
Then ask yourself:
What would it feel like to stop forcing and start flowing?
Perhaps the answer doesn't need to come all at once.
Perhaps, like the mandala itself, it will reveal itself one small, beautiful piece at a time.
May you trust the rhythm of your life.
May you move with curiosity rather than resistance.
May you find ease in the unfolding.
And may you remember that you don't have to control every turn in the path to find your way.
